Candy Cane Heart Pops

Hi everyone! You may have noticed the 30 handmade day creative team button on my blog. That is there because (yes) I'm now part of the creative team! I'll be posting over there once a month and so far I'm LOVING it! Make sure to go over and check it out: Thirty Handmade Days. 

Well, I think this will be the last Valentines project for this year :(. Although it's sad to say goodbye to this fun holiday, I'm excited to get on with other tutorials. I have some GREAT posts lined up for you!

Today I'm going to share a great project. Not only is it cute, but it's super fun to make (it's fun for little hands too). 

MATERIALS:

• Mini candy canes ( I saw them the other day at Michael's for around 50 cents a box :) 
• Candy melts (preferably two colors) 
• lollipop sticks 
• spoons 

Steps:

1. On a baking sheet,  place two candy canes next to each other with a lollipop stick in-between so it forms a basic heart. 
2. Place the baking sheet in the oven at three hundred degrees for 3 minutes. The trick about this is you want them to be bendable not melted. 
3. When they come out of the oven immediately shape them onto the stick and into more of a pretty heart shape. 
4. Once the candy canes have hardened,  carefully spoon candy melts into the center of the pops and then drizzle a contrasting color over it. 
5. Allow it to harden (I found it helpful to put them in the fridge). 

"You're Sweet" Valentines (part one)

For me, Valentines is all about the cute little candy grahams with a play on words. Sometimes though, it's really hard to come up with these (I mean seriously have you seen the store bought valentines these days? Lame).

The Valentine idea I'm sharing today you can put on almost anything. 

This tag is super versatile. You can use it on cookies, candy, cake, you name it as long as it's sweet. 

I even made them in two different colors.

In this tutorial I used the pink, red, and gray version. But I also made a pink, red, and blue version.

Today and tomorrow, I'm going to be showing a few examples of how to use this tag. Today, I'm going to show you how to make a cute candy necklace.

Materials: 

• cellophane
• sewing machine (yes your going to use a sewing machine for this
• twine/string
• tags (get 'em here)
• candy (I used peanut m&m's and kisses) 

Steps:

1. cut a piece of cellophane that's 7 inches wide by however many inches your wrap is long
2. fold the cellophane "hot dog" style and sew down the side 
3. flip the cellophane inside out, so the seam is in the inside
4. Tie off the end of one of the sides with a piece of twine
5. put candy through the open end of the cellophane ( I used 10 M&M's and 5 Kisses)
6. tie off the cellophane
7. put more candy in (ect) 
8. once you have filled the cellophane stuff one of the ends of the cellophane into the other and sew it together
9. tie on a tag 

"I'm Glad We Swim in the Same School" Valentines

Here's some more fun valentines.

Here's the story:

I made these for my little sister. I had a WHOLE board on Pinterest of super cute things I could make for her, but when she saw the swedish fish Valentines it was love at first sight. 

I wasn't super excited to make these for her, but I actually really like how they turned out.

I even made tags you can download.

I wanted to dress the bags up a little, so I added a twisted pipe cleaner, twine,  and some ribbon.

Materials:

• clear cellophane bag
• pipe cleaner
• gift ribbon
• bakers twine
• stapler
• swedish fish
• stapler
• glue dots
• these tags

Steps:

1. Place around ten swedish fish in the bottom of your bag
2. fold the top of the bag over and staple it closed with the tag on top 
3. wrap your pipe cleaner around a pencil and staple it onto the bag along with a piece of curled ribbon 
4. tie a bow out of bakers twine and put it on the ribbon with a glue dot.

"One in a Minion" Valentines

Happy {early} Valentines day everyone! I know this tutorial's late, but I think it will be worth the wait.

I for one absolutely LOVE Despicable Me 2, not to mention the adorable little minions. How can you not love them? So I created a little play on words to incorporate minions into this Valentine season. 

aren't they adorable? Ok, so let's just pretend I don't have you sold on the whole minion valentine idea (let's be honest though, you are all sold) look at the cute little eyes and tag I created……….. it's free …………. and you can get them for yourself. Just scroll to the end of the post. And if your STILL not sold, just let me say: they involve twinkies.

I think I had a little too much fun taking pictures on these :).

Materials:

• Twinkies (I used the generic brand because (1) they're cheaper, and (2) the hostess brand ones don't have clear wrapping) 
• minion eyes (get yours here)
• one in a minion tag (get yours here)
• twine/ string 
• glue dots (really anything sticky) 
• hole puncher

Steps:

1. cut out the glasses and tags.
2. place a glue dot on each side of one of the glasses and place it near the top of the Twinkie. 
3. use a hole puncher to punch out a whole in the tag
4. slide a piece of string through the hole in the tag and tie it onto the Twinkie. 

Weaved Heart Valentine Canvas Art

I have another great Valentines craft for you this week! It's another Decor project. It's simple, fun, and cost efficient.

I call it my "Weaved Heart Canvas Art", and it so easy to make too!

Supplies:
-Canvas
- Painters Tape
- wax paper
- paint
- Vinyl

Steps:

1. Start by painting your canvas.

2. Cut a heart out a vinyl and use the negative (I used my silhouette and a heart shape I found online, more on that here)

3. Put your painters tape on a piece of wav paper and cut it. I did this because I wanted my tape to be thinner. I just put my tape through the paper cutter and pulled it off, it worked really well. 

4. lay the pieces of tape on the canvas horizontally.

5. paint the inside of the heart.

6. remove the pieces of tape.

7. (not pictured) repeat steps 4 and 5, but lay the pieced if tape in the other direction.

Mixed Heart Valentine Banner

Valentines Day is among us!! The holidays always seem to sneak up on me, but I've been planning valentines projects to make for months, and I have some GREAT projects coming!

So, on that note, I FINALLY decided what colors to do for my Valentines decor this year. For me, deciding colors is always a long process that involves me looking all over Pinterest to make sure I get the cutest color scheme. 

As much as I love red and pink for valentines, it's REALLY over used. And (you know me) I have to be unique. This year I decided on (drumroll please)

RED.

PINK.

AND GOLD. (particularly gold in the form of sparkles ;) 

Since that was decided I made this cute banner, I call it the Mixed Heart Banner. I mixed paper hearts and felt hearts to make a unique banner. I love that each of the hearts individually aren't that cute, but together they make some adorable. 

Keep reading to learn how to make all four of these hearts and how to assemble them.

** I used about 8 of the paper and doily hearts and 4 of the felt ones **

Stitched Heart:

-Make a heart template. I made my red hearts a little smaller then my paper hearts, but not as small as the glitter ones. 

- Cut draw your heart from your template onto the felt of your choice and cut them out. Keep in mind that for each stitched heart, you will need to felt pieces. 

- match two hearts up and stitch around the outside. You just need a simple up and down stitch, it just needs to be pretty. 

Glitter Heart:

-Cut out a heart (I used my silhouette) and use the negative as a stencil. 

-Take a sheet of white felt and place the stencil on top of it. Put a coat of modge podge thats blocked off with the stencil and cover the modge podge with glitter. 

- Pull the template off and cut the heart out of the felt. 

Doily Heart:

-Download this shape from the silhouette studio.

-Cut it out on your silhouette 

Paper Heart:

- Download and print these hearts and cut them out.

Assembly:

-Cut a piece of bakers twine/string/ect that is as long as you need your banner to be.

-Tape the paper hearts onto the string first with packing tape, overlap them slightly. 

- Hot glue the felt hearts on top of the paper hearts every few hearts.

That' s it!! Easy right?

DIY tulle Garland

WOW.... I just realized today that TOMORROW is valentines day. So I decided to do a post on a last minute valentine decor idea (incase you forgot like me).

It is so Cute and easy to make.

Want to make your own

GET:

-bakers twine 

-rolls of tulle

-scissors

-3x4 piece of cardboard 

-needle

DO:

-take a piece of tulle 2 1/2 yards long 

-wrap it around the cardboard 

-slide it off the cardboard and tie a piece of twine in the center

-cut the ends of the tulle open

-fluff

Valentine Goody bags (tutorial)

In my family, Every valentines day we get out our little mailboxes to put little notes and gifts in for each person. This year, I made these for everyone.

BUY:
-clear bags
-conversation hearts
-shredded paper (i used my shredder)
-bookmarks + printable  (from here)
-twist ties
-washi tape (mine is from target)

DO:
-make bookmarks and put them on the cute cards
-put shredded paper in bottom of clear bag
-add bookmark 
-sprinkle in 10 conversation hearts 
- cover twist tie with washi tape
-close the bag with twist tie 
-ENJOY

This year's Valentines

Hi,
I'm so late on getting Valentines ready I needed a simple project. I would do another picture card like last year's, but all the boys drew mustache's and stuff on me (not a good memory). So I decided to try something with no romance of any kind (note *last year i put "your friend"*). i got the idea from here.I made some cute tags to go with it ( with the same kit as ten things I love about you), and viola!!!!!

heart balls...

WOW!!! This morning I was thinking about my blog and thought hmm.. maybe I'll do one v- day post a week. Then what do you know my mom is telling me that valentines day is like two weeks away. So I'm doing one post everyday.

day 2: Heart balls,

 here they are my beautiful balls. Sorry, I forgot to take pics :).
Take a foam ball ( any size) and punch out a lot of hearts and fold them in half. hot glue them all over the ball and stick a lollipop stick in the bottom and your done. I know easy!!!  I did two , I decided the valentines colors for my room this year are pink and brown. 

 

v- day

I have been working on V-day decorations ( since it's one of favorite holidays) so far I came up with two, I'm so proud of myself this idea came out of my own melon!!! Here they are: 

1. foam chocolate balls :

 how cute are these? I KNOW!!! Here's how to make them:

1. ( sorry about the blurry pic) get a small plastic cup ( I used a 6oz cup) and cut the top off so it's only about 1"- 1 1\2" and pour a light brown chocolate colored paint into the cup.

 2. get a clean paper plate or paper towel and three small foam balls ( I got mine at dollar tree, a buck for all of them!) and cut of the bottom so they lay flat.  

 3. flip over the foam ball and stick a tooth pick in.

 4. holding the tooth pick carefully dip the round part of the ball in the cup with the paint.

 5. now were getting to the messy part, so make sure your wearing clothes that can get dirty. with your fingers carefully take the chocolate off of the tooth pick and lay it on the paper plate. repeat steps 4 and 5 for all the balls.

6. when your chocolates drys (mine took 24 hours) squeeze hot pink paint onto the chocolates . 

7. let them dry and carefully place them in mini cupcake liners. TA- DA!!!!
