{Copycat} Mall Pretzels

Image Map
It's been a while since I shared a recipe, so todays the day. I think you're going to like this. It's THE best soft pretzel recipe I've found. Seriously, they taste JUST like the soft pretzels at the mall. Have I ever mentioned my love for soft pretzels?

It brings back old memories of getting soft pretzels and smoothies every time we went to the mall. Those things aren't cheap though, so I decided to make my own.

Don't they just look amazing. Imagine these with a bowl of cream cheese and a green smoothie. Oh wow, I'm making myself hungry.

They do take a little while, so you can pre make a bunch dough and stick it in the fridge for later.

And, if you're wanting a little extra treat, roll the pretzel pieces. It's like eating dessert for lunch!

here's the recipe:
Ingredients
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 2 cups warm water
  •  salt (for topping)
  • Melted butter
Instructions
  1. Dissolve yeast, sugar and salt in 1 1/2 cups warm water.
  2. Stir in flour.
  3. Knead until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place dough in a well oiled bowl and turn to coat.
  5. Cover and let rise for one hour.
  6. Preheat oven to 425°F.
  7. Turn dough onto floured surface. Pat down and cut into 12 pieces.
  8. Roll each piece into a rope and cut into small sections.
  9. Dissolve baking soda in 2 cups warm water.
  10. Dip dough pieces into baking soda solution.
  11. Place pieces on a greased cookie sheet.
  12. Sprinkle with sea salt.
  13. Bake for 7-8 minutes until golden brown.
  14. Dip each bite in melted butter after baking.
  15. OPTIONAL: coat each bite in cinnamon sugar
